Project Overview

Increasing the availability of attractive and affordable housing on campus for faculty and staff is a priority of Stanford University. With approval from the County of Santa Clara, Stanford is moving forward with plans to build 39 single-family homes for faculty and 25 rental homes for staff, far below the 2000 General Plan Use Permit designation for up to 325 residential units on the site.

Providing affordable housing on campus for faculty and staff is consistent with the requirements of the 2000 General Use Permit and supports Stanford's ability to recruit and retain faculty and staff. Also, the many transportation opportunities in the area – the Marguerite Shuttle, VTA bus network, and biking and walking – will help reduce faculty and staff commute trips and pollution from vehicle emissions.

Single Family Homes for Faculty – Olmsted Terrace

Thirty-nine faculty homes will be built on a 7-acre parcel between Olmsted Road and Stanford Avenue. The two-story homes will range from 1,900 to 2,350 square feet and include two-car garages plus at least one guest spot. The homes are designed in an architectural style that integrates with the adjacent College Terrace neighborhood of Palo Alto. The homes are designed to be energy-efficient and incorporate drought-tolerant landscaping. Driveway access will be via Olmsted Road only, and there will be no reduction in available parking for residents of Escondido Village. Rental Homes for Staff

Twenty-five homes including 17 single-family homes and four duplex buildings (eight units) will be built on the 3-acre site located between Olmsted Road and El Camino Real. The homes vary in size from 1,550 to 1,880 square feet and the architecture will reference the surrounding context and neighboring architectural styles. These homes are designed in clusters to minimize vehicle entry points and preserve mature trees.
